Miami Game Week Press Conference

Head Coach Ron Zook

On Florida's offensive line vs. UAB…

"I was very, very happy with the offensive lines performance. I thought not only did they protect Rex well, our run blocking was very crisp. There were few mental errors, and I think when you get to a point to keep your mental errors down then you have a chance to be pretty good. I think our offensive line is looking forward to this challenge. Arguably, Miami has one of the best defensive lines in the country. They are good, it gives our guys an opportunity to see exactly where we are, and I think guys come to the University of Florida for the opportunity to play in a game like this. You know, it's a challenge. This is what competitors compete for."

On putting pressure on UM quarterback Ken Dorsey…

"I noticed, while watching tape of Ken Dorsey, that he's able to sit back and set his feet. He's very accurate. We have to figure out a way to get some pressure and get around him. They've done a great job protecting him. They're going to keep him protected so he can sit back there and be comfortable."

QB Rex Grossman

On the Florida-Miami rivalry compared to Florida-FSU…

"Obviously they're a rival and it's a huge game, so it feels very similar. But they're number one and the defending National Champions, so it adds a little more to it."

On the Heisman race…

"It's just another thing to talk about in a huge game. Obviously we don't go head-to-head. We just need to prepare defensively for a great quarterback. There's really nothing I can do. Defense needs to prepare and the media needs to talk about it, so I'm irrelevant in the whole thing."

OT Max Starks

On Miami's defensive line…

"I think they're definitely a very formidable force up there in the front four, especially their experience. It's definitely helping them that guys are returning from last year and having a national championship season. That's definitely going to be a big challenge for us up front. But it's nothing new that we haven't faced before in the SEC. I mean, all those guys are fast, quick and big. Their front four are probably more experienced, but as far as skills and athleticism we've seen it before."

WR Vernell Brown

On Rex Grossman…

"Rex is definitely a great quarterback, he's exceptional. He puts the ball on the money where only the receiver can get it. He makes it extremely hard on the defensive back. He definitely has a strong arm."

DT Ian Scott

On Miami's running game…

"I think they have a different running game than UAB so it's going to be a different challenge. They have a few running plays that they run very well. They are not going to try to run a lot of different running plays. They got some fair runs they run well and the offensive line blocks them good and they get a lot of yards off of those plays. That's what they are going to run and they're going to run it until you stop it. If you don't then they are going to go up and down the field on you. We have to make sure we do a good job and play as well as we can and not allow them to have a balanced offense."

OG Shannon Snell

On the rivalry between Florida and Miami…

"Us not playing Miami for the last few years, I think the rivalry has died down a little bit. When we played in the Sugar Bowl, I don't think there was too much fan interest because we hadn't played Miami in such a long time. I think the rivalry is bigger between us and Florida State and Tennessee because we play them every year and we want to win every year. I think now that we're playing Miami more, the rivalry will grow back into a big war between us."

DT Tron LaFavor

On playing Miami at home…

"It's real important that we have the home field advantage. I'm excited to have this opportunity to play this game my senior year in our backyard."

FS Todd Johnson

On Spurrier leaving and Coach Zook taking over…

"I think everybody around this country has in the back of their heads about Coach Spurrier leaving except for the players on this team. We know that we're going to come out and play like Coach Zook wants us to. I'm sure people will always think about Coach Spurrier because of what he has done. I know Coach Zook is going to be good for this program and for this university."
