"Right now, it hasn't really sunk in. Two months ago I had no offers and now I have five," said the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder who finished his junior season with 121 tackles, with 24 of those for loss, four sacks, and two interceptions.
With stats like that, there are several interesting additions to his recruitment like a conversation he had on Wednesday.
"I talked to Coach Urban Meyer [Wednesday], so it is pretty cool right now. We've been playing phone tag the last couple of weeks. The recruiting guy I've been talking to ahs been hbelping since he can't call me."
Mauti, who holds an offer from the Gators felt encouraged after speaking with the head coach of the national champs.
"They had their recruiting meeting this morning and they were talking about me. That's still unbelievable to me. He was just talking about how they were watching me on film and likes what he sees and hopes to get me into camp this summer and get to see me run out on the field."
Mauti could have a busy summer as he "definitely" plans on attending the Florida camp on June 3. However, the Gators certainly are not the only school to recruit Mauti.
"I also have offers from Ole Miss, Lousiana Tech, Tulane, and Oklahoma. I've been talking to Florida the most, they give me the text messages all day. But I've been talking to a guy from Minnesota a lot lately. About 20 minutes ago, the linebackers coach from Oregon just texted me and said that they liked what they saw. It's definitely something I like right now."
And it will only continue to grow.
