Jonas Gray, Mr. Everything

Jonas Gray from Beverly Hills (MI), Detroit Country Day School is one of the nation's top power backs. In only seven games during his junior campaign Gray gained over 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns. During his sophomore season he ran for nearly 800 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Fresh off a state championship in basketball, it's time to turn his focus back to football.

"I have been working out at Velocity Sports learning how to do things the right way and concentrating on my core. The core is the key to good balance and foot work." Gray has been to three junior days at this time, he spoke about each one.

Michigan: "They are definitely serious about recruiting me and they have had some injuries at the running back spot as well. The coaching staff has told me they want to see more of me."

Michigan St: "I liked the Michigan St. junior day the best so far. They were much more hands on and really made you feel wanted. Coach Mark Dantonio is actually coming to my school today to see me and that means a lot when the head coach comes to see you."

Notre Dame: "The history at a school like Notre Dame is amazing and the atmosphere in South Bend is incredible."

Some of the schools that have offered at this time are Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Illinois, Michigan St, Cincinnati, and the University of Florida. One Big Ten school that has not offered at this time is Penn State.

"Penn State is starting to show a lot of interest, they told me that they have not offered yet because they thought my mind was all set on the Gators."

Speaking of the Gators, Gray spoke with Coach Meyer this past Monday.

"Coach Meyer just talked to me about getting me down to Gainesville. It would be great for me to come to Florida so I can learn from Harvin on playing the tailback position and see how he does it."

At 5'10 and 213lbs, most people view Gray as one of the premier power backs in the nation, but he was quick to inform me that he has run as low as 4.40. Gray carries a 3.0 GPA while playing three varsity sports including football, track and basketball and attends one of the toughest academic schools in the nation.

One of the main factors that he will base his decision on will be his comfort level with his position coach. Gray had some tremendous things to say about Gator Running Back Coach Stan Drayton.

"I have a great connection with Coach Drayton, he tells me how they need my leadership skills and he show's great interest in getting to know me as a person and that's very important to me. I am also going to major in English and that's what coach Drayton majored in as well so we have a ton of things in common and that's important to have with your position coach."

Gray knows that his scholarship offer to Florida might not be around through signing day and he actually thought about committing to the staff right after he received his offer.

Stay tuned to through signing day to follow Gray's recruitment.
