5'11, 225lb running back Eric Smith from Seffner (FL.) Armwood High School can't wait for his senior season to get underway. Coming off a disappointing junior season due to a fractured elbow in week one; Smith gained 550 yards with 12 touchdown's in only four games. With 6'7 five star offensive linemen Matt Patchan leading the way, many schools expect Smith to have a huge senior season including the Gators who were the first team to offer.

Ironically, it was the injury that helped clear up the recruiting process for Smith. "Florida was the first school to offer me and it was right after I fractured my elbow. I hold them higher than other schools because it showed how much they liked me as a player. After they offered me, other schools did the same." Smith went to the Gators' junior day and the Orange and Blue game. "The junior day was great for my mom. It gave us both a chance to see the campus together and she was able to ask about academics. The Orange and Blue game was great". Every running back that I have talked to has had great things to say about running backs coach Stan Drayton; Smith was no different. "I loved talking to Coach Drayton. He was telling me how he loved my size and strength." Smith went on to say this about the running back situation at Florida: "Coach Drayton was telling me that they need a big time back. I could give them what they need. Even though they like to sprinkle in the use of the scat back every once in a while it's a good opportunity at Florida."

Smith has also been to junior days at Florida St. and Central Florida. On Florida St. he had this to say: "I was able to meet the new coaching staff. They seem to be down to earth guys. I enjoyed talking to Coach Dexter Carter and head coach Bobby Bowden. Coach Bowden talked to me about church and everything."

Since the end of football season Smith has been extremely busy running track. He participates in the 100m (11.2) and the 4 x 100m as well as the discus. Smith reports a time of 4.58 in the 40. He carries a 2.8 GPA and is scheduled to take the SAT in early May.
