POLL: Can Leak Stick with Bears?

He wasn't chosen in the seven round NFL draft last week, but Chris Leak may have ended up in as good a situation as he could hope for. The former Gator quarterback will try to catch on with the Chicago Bears – a team with a pretty jumbled quarterback position. That lack of stability might work in Leak's favor if he can show the Bears anything in training camp and exhibition games.

Of course another former Gator, Rex Grossman is the number one guy in Chi-town and veteran Brian Griese is right on his heels. Leak does not have to worry about t5hose guys because he will not be in the top two. No, Chris Leak will be trying to outplay Kyle Orton and J.T. O'Sullivan. Let's look at the qualifications of each in this three-man battle.

Chris Leak ----- The quarterback for the National Champs, Leak had a solid senior season passing for 2,942 yards with 23 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He completed 63.6 percent of his passes. For his career he passed for more than 11,000 yards and 88 touchdowns. He won't be expensive as a free agent.

J.T. O'Sullivan ----- This five year veteran had not thrown a pass in those seasons, riding the pine first with New Orleans and more recently Green Bay. He has average size at 6'2" and purportedly a good arm. He played his college ball at Cal-Davis.

Kyle Orton ----- Two years ago the Bears used a fourth rounder to grab Orton out of Purdue and he ended up playing a lot as a rookie. Orton passed for 1,869 yards with nine touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He played because Rex Grossman got hurt, and did not throw any passes this season. The big plus with Orton is his 6'5" frame which really stands out compared with the other quarterbacks on the roster. There would probably be some minor salary cap hit if the Bears released him in favor of Leak but it wouldn't be prohibitive.

It's possible the Bears would keep Orton and Leak, leaving Leak on the practice squad for a year. That would give Chris a chance to learn the NFL game and the Bears' system, which is an ideal scenario.

So will Chris Leak stick with the Bears in 2007 or not? I say, yes. What do you think?
