Patterson decision expected later today

After Bellaire (Texas) point guard Jai Lucas announced on Monday his intentions to sign with the Gators, now it's Huntington (W.Va.) Patrick Patterson's turn. The McDonald's All American and No. 4-rated high school power forward in the country will make his decion known to the world at 3:45 Wednesday afternoon.

At 6-9, 234-pounds, Patterson was an intimidating force at the high school level. He has a solid body and is a great defender, but can also knock down the mid-range jumper. Should he choose Florida, he could become the perfect replacement for Al Horford.

Patterson has stretched out the recruiting process as long as he possibly could. He's the last of the five-star prospects to sign and if he signs with Florida, the Gators will become one of three schools to sign more than one five-star prospect (Kansas State and Syracuse).

The final decision comes down to Duke and Kentucky in addition to the Gators. Kentucky is close to home for Patterson, but the Gators have the benefit of new signee, and a close friend to Patterson, Jai Lucas. There are also the ties that head coach Billy Donovan has to the Huntington area, which is home to Marshall University - Donovan's first head coaching position. He has spoken numerous times at Patterson's high school.

As for Lucas, he and Patterson have a strong realtionship since competing against each other on the Nike ciruit, and Lucas has been recruiting Patterson hard ever since making his announcement on Monday.
