VETTEL: Will Baseball End this Week?

The Gator Baseball team has gone one step farther than it did a year ago, reaching the SEC Tournament as the number six seed. But unless the week ahead is a good one, that's as far as they will go.

Florida enters the SEC Tournament with a 28-28 record, leaving them the slightest chance to earn an NCAA at-large berth. If that's the case, then Florida must win the double elimination event in Birmingham to return to tournament play.

Oh, there's a chance to the Gators could win two or three games and that would be enough to impress the selection committee. After all, the Gators have had a top 30 RPI all season long and their strength of schedule has been ranked in the top three. Florida does have some impressive wins on its resume including taking two out of three from both Florida State and Miami. The Gators can also point to a sweep on the road of then 21st-ranked Auburn and road series victories over Georgia and LSU.

However, for every positive there is a negative that works against Pat McMahon's club. Florida lost series to the likes of VMI (RPI #102) and Kent (RPI #156) and were swept by Texas A&M, Arkansas and Vanderbilt. It also hurts the Gators that they have single losses to JU, UCF and Stetson. If they had just won those games they would be 31-25 and in pretty solid shape.

So how would you assess the Gators' NCAA Chances?
