Nord Visits Gainesville

In recruiting, you always hear people talk about kids flying under the radar. A perfect example of that is tight end prospect Nathan Nord. Nord, from Boca Raton (Fla.) West Boca Raton spent the better part of Thursday afternoon in Gainesville.

Nord has great athleticism for a kid of his size, 6-6, 215-pounds and ran a 4.6 forty in Gainesville late yesterday afternoon. It was everything the coaching staff was looking for.

Last time we checked in with Nord, he held one offer from Air Force, things have changed rapidly.

"Right after the last time we talked the coaching staff at South Florida called and offered me a scholarship and a couple days later I received the offer in the mail," Nathan Nord said. "The day after the Miami camp, Central Michigan called and offered me a scholarship. A few days later I spoke with the Miami staff met after the camp and unanimously decided to offer me a scholarship as well so I am very excited the way things are starting to go."

Tuesday night Coach Doc Holliday called Nord's father and invited them to come down to Gainesville.

"We left early this morning [Thursday] and arrived around 11:00 a.m.," Nord said. "We checked in with Coach Holliday and then we toured the campus. It was the first time that I have seen the school and I thought it was awesome. It is the best campus that I have seen by far."

"After that, we went to have lunch with Coach Dan Mullen. Coach Mullen was talking to me about the tradition of the University and how I would fit into the offense. I think based on what they said that they plan to move me around some. The cool thing was after lunch they had me run some routes. Coach Urban Meyer was on hand to watch while Coach Mullen was throwing me the passes. I was running slants, posts, flag routes and some hitches. Coach Mullen has a better arm than what I thought he would."

"After that, I went in to the weight room and hit the sled with Coach Hevesy. I had time to shower up and then Coach Mullen took me up to meet with Coach Meyer in his office. Coach Meyer told me that I have everything that they are looking for at the tight end position and that they were going to keep recruiting me throughout the season. The one thing they want to see is game highlights."

Nord went on to talk about how he thought the visit went.

"It was awesome, that's the greatest program in the country as far as athletics and academics," he said. "It was an amazing campus."

He will be very busy over the summer trying to get to as many schools as possible to show college coaches what he can do.

"Saturday I am flying out to a camp at Purdue and then Louisville and then after that I am heading to Boston College."

My Take:
Nathan Nord is a very gifted and athletic tight end. Florida has a number of tight ends to keep an eye on this year. Brandon Moore (Michigan Verbal) Chase Clement, Tyler Edwards and now Nathan Nord. He is exactly what the coaching staff is looking for; the only thing holding him back right now is game footage. Once his senior season gets underway I think the staff will have more than what they need to extend him an offer.
