Wells Ready to be a Gator?

Keith Wells is one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the South right now, and he made a trip down to Gainesville for the Florida Camp. Is he ready to commit after a trip to see the Gators?

"That was my first time down to Florida," said Keith Wells a standout defensive end from Gainesville High School in Georgia. "Man, that place is unbelievable. I haven't seen a whole lot of campuses yet, but it's more impressive than any other campus I've ever been to.

What was it about Florida that really got his attention?

"It was everything about the campus. The facilities were nice. The people on campus were great.  The players, it was just everything. What other University has palm trees on the campus? With the moss growing on the trees, tt felt like you were actually in the Swamp which made it cool."

Wells took advantage of his time getting to meet with just about everyone involved with the Florida Gator football program while he was in town.

"I got to meet basically everybody. I met Percy Harvin, Derrick Harvey, Cam Newton, Tim Tebow; I got to meet with a lot of the players. I got to meet with just about every coach. I spent most of my time with Coach Mattison. I got to meet the defensive coordinator, Coach Strong."

Wells also sat down with the head man, and he enjoyed his visit with Urban Meyer.

"I was asking a lot of questions about him and what he was doing before he was at Florida. I just wanted to get to know him some. We sat down and had a meeting, and he sat down and gave it to me straight. He wasn't telling me that I was the best defensive end they'd ever seen and stuff like that. He was telling me that they were all very excited about me, that I had a lot of work to do, but if I stayed at it, I would be a very good player."

Florida has been considered a strong contender to land Wells, and the Gators didn't do anything to hurt their chances. Wells didn't make a commitment, but it's starting to seem like a matter of when rather than if.

"I didn't commit while I was there. I want my mom to see what I saw while I was there. I want her to see the campus and meet the coaches. If she's as impressed as I was, then that's when I'll make a decision. We'll be back down on July 20th for Friday Night Lights."

If other schools are going to make up ground with Wells, then July 20th looks like the date it needs to be done by. Wells will visit two schools between now and then.

"In about two weeks I'm going up to Notre Dame for their one day camp, and after that, we'll stop by Ohio State to tour the campus and facility. After that, I think I'll be done with visits and camps until Friday Night Lights."

After Friday Night lights, it looks like there could be a very real chance that Wells will be done with his recruitment as well.
