Green, who stands 5-11 and weighs 208-pounds, has a reported 40-time of 4.51 and has 11 offers, but has his list narrowed to three.
"Florida, South Carolina and Rutgers are the three teams that I am looking at the most," Green said. "I have been to Florida and South Carolina but not Rutgers at this time. My most recent trip was to check out South Carolina, and it was nice but I did not get a chance to see the all of the football facilities so my coach and I are trying to make it back over the next week or so."
"In early June, Chaz Sutton and I went to Gainesville together for a three-day camp and it went great. Coach Stan Drayton is my recruiting coach and we spent a lot of time together."
When Green first started checking out the Florida offense, he thought he would not be a good fit with how they run the ball, but after talking to Drayton, he has changed his mind.
"Coach Drayton was telling me how they need a big-time back to come in and take control of the situation," he said. "He showed me how they used to run the ball, but they did not have a true running back that could break free from the linebackers and the safeties. When I first looked at it, I thought it wouldn't be a system that I would want to run in but after he showed me what they plan to do this year and moving forward I changed my mind pretty quick. Coach told me that they run the ball about 55-60 percent of the time, but they had more success throwing the ball the last couple of years."
The Florida staff is building great relationships with potential prospects for the 2008 class and Drayton does just as good, if not better, than anyone on the staff.
"What was neat was the fact that Coach Drayton took me all over the campus personally," Green said. "We went to The Swamp, and he took me all over the place. I would like to play at Florida. The longer that I stayed over the three-day camp the more and more I could see myself playing for the Florida Gators. I actually just about committed to Coach Drayton while I was on campus but my coach wanted me to take it all in and finish my trips before I make a decision. I mean at one point I was very close to telling Coach Drayton and Coach Urban Meyer that I was coming to Florida."
When I caught up with Chaz Sutton last week he informed FightinGators.com that the entire town of Savannah would like to see the top two stars go to the number one team in the nation.
"Chaz and I get that a lot," Green said. "Even from people that we do not know come up to us and say you guys should both go to Florida. It is somewhat crazy but I guess the recruiting process has taken on a life of its own around here. Early on, we talked about going to the same school everyday but I think he has seen some things that might take him somewhere else."
Jenkins High School runs the Wishbone offense. Green ran for just less than 2,000 yards last year with 19 touchdowns on 170 carries, which is roughly 11 yards per carry for those keeping track.
Franklin Green has written offers from his top three schools - Florida, South Carolina and Rutgers. He has camped at Florida and visited South Carolina. Green plans to take one more trip to Columbia and then he wants to get to Rutgers with his coach before Friday Night Lights. If he can accomplish that, he could be one that very well gives his commitment to the Florida staff on July 20.
