FNL: Well Worth the Trip

Marlon Walls is a fantastic looking linebacker prospect from Memphis (Tenn.) Wooddale High School. Walls is 6-4 and 217-pounds and runs in the 4.5 range. He has the ability to play both the run and pass at an extremely high level. We caught up with Walls right after his tour, here is what he had to say about Friday Night Lights.

The last time I spoke with Marlon Walls, he informed me that Florida and Tennessee were his leaders; things have changed dramatically.

"I fell in love with the campus and the attention that I received from the Florida coaches. Last night put the Gators over the top of Tennessee and Ole Miss."

Walls drove with his mother and two teammates 14 hours to attend Friday Night Lights. For Walls, it was all about the competition and competing with some of the top talent in the nation.

"Being at Florida, seeing the campus and the attention that the coaches gave me showed me that it wasn't all talk," he said. "The staff really backed it up and proved how much they want me in this class. With all the great players around me and what the staff told me really made me say to myself this is the place I want and need to be."

I had a chance to follow Walls closely for a better part of the night; he has all the tools, size, quickness and a work ethic that is unmatched.

"When I see great players I work even harder. I did the best that I could do and feel like I had one of the better linebacker performances of everyone at the camp."

Walls was one of the only linebackers all night that had the quickness to stay with Jamie Harper. Speaking of great players, Walls struck up chemistry with another linebacker prospect that is taking a serious look at the Gators.

"Jerrell and I hit it off right from the start," Walls said. "He told me that he has Florida at the top of his list and I have them at the top of my list so we were talking about coming down and turning this thing out. It came up in conversation and we were definitely thinking about it. We will stay in touch from here on out. We exchanged numbers and we will stay in touch with each other and work this thing out."

Walls was scheduled for his campus tour this morning around 10:00 a.m., but before the tour could get started, he was called in to head coach Urban Meyer's office.

"Coach Meyer brought me into his office before we went on our tour," he said. "We sat in his office and expressed how much he wants me at Florida. Coach Meyer wants me in Gainesville, he is fighting for me and this is the place that he wants me at." Equally as impressive as the camp and the time with Coach Meyer was the tour of the campus.

"The atmosphere here in Gainesville is amazing, you see the Gator pride everywhere you turn. It is a tremendous campus, it is pretty big but I loved the campus and facilities, I love it right now."
