SEC Media Days: Media Picks Gators in East

HOOVER, Ala. -- The Florida Gators are the overwhelming favorites to repeat as SEC East champions, but with the release of the media's preseason predictions, not too many see them repeating as conference champs.

The LSU Tigers received 54-of-80 votes to capture the 2007 SEC Championship, plus they led the way with seven All-SEC selections.

The Gators are predicted to finish top in the East and finished second behind the Tigers with six All-SEC selections.

As expected, Derrick Harvey was selected to the first team after his three sack performance in the BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State in January. No other Gator made first team on defense, and the only other returning starter, Tony Joiner, was selected to the second team.

The talented Gator offense was recognized with four offensive first and second team selections. Only Arkansas had that many offensive selections, and all of the Razorbacks were named to the first team.

Offensive tackle Phil Trautwein was the only Gator selected the first team. Tight end Cornelius Ingram, center Drew Miller and wide receiver Percy Harvin are all second team selections.

In the East, Tennessee was picked to finish second behind the Gators with 16 first place votes. Georgia (12) was selected third, South Carolina (11) fourth, Kentucky fifth and Vanderbilt sixth.

Florida received 41 first place votes and seven votes to win the conference title.
