Quinn Back From Gainesville

With former teammate defensive end Carlos Dunlap now in Gainesville, Robert Quinn knows he has huge shoes to fill. At 6-5, 250-pounds, he is more than capable. The North Charleston (S.C.) Fort Dorchester High School star took a recent trip to watch as the defending national champs took the practice field for the first time.

"I was at Florida State from about noon to eight and then my dad, brother and I headed to Gainesville to check out practice," Robert Quinn said after his Sunday visit. "We got up and took a tour of the campus it was cool. I met with Coach Charlie Strong and Coach Urban Meyer; they showed us the plans for the new weight room. After that, I met up with Carlos Dunlap. Carlos and I talked for a while, he was telling me all about the campus and stuff like that. His recruiting process was crazy so he is not putting pressure on me to come join him. Carlos wants me to be able to make my own decision."

Quinn and his family had a good talk with coach Meyer.

"Coach Meyer was telling us about the program and the graduation rate at Florida," he said. "It was very impressive. He went on to talk about how they keep players on the right track to graduate for life after football."

Quinn also got a chance to take in the Gators' first practice of the fall.

"I stayed for the first session," Quinn said. "That freshman class is just plain sick. They are ready to make some noise this year. All those young guys are ready to take it to the next level of their careers"

But now, Quinn is getting ready for his own senior season to get underway.

"I can't wait to get back on the field and get this thing cranked up," he said. "We ran a 4-3 last year, and this year we are putting in the 3-4. The coaching staff is moving me around a bit this year between outside linebacker and defensive tackle. I actually prefer to play outside linebacker and defensive end. End is where most teams are telling me that I have the best chance to succeed at the next level."

Quinn compared his two trips to Gainesville and Tallahassee.

"I like both Florida and Florida State," he said. "I would say that the trips went about the same for me. My dad did not say that much, he was soaking it all in and later we will sit down and discuss each of them. The biggest difference is that Florida is coming off that national championship and they have Carlos."

Quinn has been to Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, Maryland and Rutgers this summer and plans to take one more trip to North Carolina.
