Fitzgerald Ready for Camp

J.B. Fitzgerald is one of the top linebackers from the state of New Jersey. Fitzgerald, a four-star linebacker from Princeton Junction (NJ) W.W.P. High School-South Campus is 6-3, 225-pounds. This week Fitzgerald talks about conditioning, the text message ban and where does an entire team go eat after a day in the hot sun?

Another day without any text messages from coaches. It feels weird after receiving about four or five a day for almost seven months; however, it is definitely a relief not keep up with it all. With out the text messages you rather begin to forget about the recruiting process.

Another night of team conditioning tonight, my teammates and I have been working hard 4 nights a week since July 9. This will get us into great shape going into preseason camp so that we can really focus on the team logistics as oppose to getting back into shape. It feels great to be getting back out on the field with my teammates after several months off.

Today was my off day and my friends and I went to a concert. It was a lot of fun, and a nice short break from football.

Now that the text messaging from coaches has stopped that does not mean that the coaches have gone away. My recruiting coach from RU (Coach Jackson) has been calling my coaches all week and today he asked my coach to have me call them. When I called them up, he just wanted to catch up and see how I was doing. Today was also the day that my good friend Steve Shimko was offered and committed to Rutgers. Steve and I played our first three years of football together and now I have played against him every year in high school. I was happy for him when I found out the news, although I do not think that his commitment would really have much of an effect on my decision.

Before conditioning, tonight my Mom and I had a long conversation about recruiting and the upcoming season. I think by now, even though neither of my parents have said anything I can pretty much tell where each of them wants me to go, however the most important thing to them is that I happy wherever I decide to go, which is very comforting.

Saturday: Today my team had our annual car wash at a near by gas station. Its always fun getting together with all your teammates outside of football it really brings the team closer together. After the car wash we all went to Hooters and ate every wing in the place.

Two days left until preseason camp starts and the summer is dwindling down. As much as I am excited for the season to start, it is kind of bitter sweet because of the fact that this is my last full summer, since next year I will be at the school of my choice probably by the end of June. However, I also cannot wait for senior year to begin.

My Take:
Given everything that I have heard about this situation look for Michigan, Florida and Rutgers to battle it out for the services of Fitzgerald. Remember, he has only played the linebacker position seven games. He has tremendous upside heading into his senior season. To early for a prediction. Stay Tuned...
