Gator Offense Rolls Past Troy

The Gator offense started where it left off against Western Kentucky last week as they poured the points on the Troy Trojans. UF found the end zone on its first seven possessions to hold off the Trojans, 59-31, before 90,244 at The Swamp on Saturday night.

The Gators put up 342 yards of total offense in the first half alone with quarterback Tim Tebow connecting on 15-of-18 passes and throwing for 217 yards. Both Cornelius Ingram and Louis Murphy had huge halves with Ingram reaching the 100-yard mark before halftime. Murphy pulled in five catches for 71 yards also before the half.

The special teams contributed to the offensive effort as well. After the defense forced Troy to a three-and-out on the game's first drive, Roderick Blackett blocked the Trojans' punt, setting up the Gator offense on the Troy 6-yard line. After a pair of 5-yard penalties, Kestahn Moore went over the top for a 1-yard score and his third touchdown of the season. Moore scored three times in all of 2006.

Special teams continued to give the Gators great field position throughout the first half. After sitting out last week, Brandon James went 59 yards on his first kick return after the Trojans tied the score at 7. Six plays later, Tebow ran from 3 yards out to put the Gators back up by a touchdown, and they never looked back.

Six different Gators scored touchdowns in the first half. Moore rushed for a pair.

Florida got off to a rough start in the second half after Andre Caldwell fumbled after a reception on the first play of the half. Troy returned the fumble to the Gator 4. The Trojans settled for a 21-yard field goal, cutting the Gator lead to 49-10.

Troy would find the end zone two more times before the end of the quarter, and the Gators led 49-24 heading into the fourth.

UF finally got the chains moving again to start the final quarter. Starting from their own 33-yard line, the Gators drove into the red zone behind two long runs by Harvin for a total of 27 yards. Moore also had a 16-yard run, but Florida fell short of the end zone. Joey Ijjas nailed a 32-yarder for the Gators' first field goal of the season.

Both teams scored one more time.
