Michael Guilford, 1988-2007

The Gator football family suffered a tragic loss early Friday morning after redshirt freshman Michael Guilford was killed during a motorcycle accident.

During last year's preparations for the BCS title game against Ohio State, walk-on Michael Guilford played the role of Troy Smith as Buckeye quarterback. Early Friday morning, the Gator football family tragically lost Guilford who was killed in a motorcycle accident.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Michael Guilford," Gator head coach Urban Meyer said. "He was an outstanding, quality young man that was loved, respected and admired by all of us. His unselfish efforts on helping his teammates getting ready to play every week were only a glimpse of the person he was. We pray that God's blessing be with Michael's family, friends and teammates during this sad and difficult time."

The Blountstown, Florida native was nicknamed "Sunshine" a reference to the quarterback from Remember the Titans who had the same long blonde hair that Guilford had.

A scout team player of the week three times, Guilford didn't have a direct contribution on game days, but his role during game week preparations didn't go unnoticed. He earned scout team player of the week honors as recent as Florida's match up with Ole Miss three weeks ago.

The redshirt freshman also excelled in both basketball and baseball in high school. He was a Social and Behavioral Sciences major at the University of Florida.
