Darren McFadden was phenomenal against LSU with his running and passing, but he's going to leave Manhattan disappointed. In front of a packed house in The Swamp, Tim Tebow cemented the third Heisman Trophy for the University of Florida.
Tebow came into this week leading all the unofficial Heisman polls that had been taken after a superb season that included being the first player to ever run and throw for 20 touchdowns in a season. That he did it in the nation's toughest conference and a schedule that has eight seven-win teams on it just adds to the remarkable nature of the accomplishment. In fact, most believed it was Tebow's to lose, but a solid performance in a win over FSU would be enough to seal the deal.
He did more than that.
First Drive Might Have Been Enough
We didn't have to wait long for Florida's super sophomore to make a Heismanesque play. On Florida's first possession, trailing three-zip Tebow had the Gators at the FSU 23. He dropped back to throw, shook off a blitzing 'Nole like it was Chihuahua and raced into the end zone to give the Gators a lead they would never relinquish. FSU never recovered.
Tebow would end up with 262 passing yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 89 and two more scores. He has had a direct hand in 51 touchdowns and runs and offense that scored 45 points or more an incredible eight times including the last four in a row.
Tebow ends the 12-game season having passed for 3,132 yards, and run for another 838. That's just an eyelash shy of 4,000 total yards and he'll get there in the bowl game. Something that gets overlooked is the fact that he didn't fumble all season and threw just six interceptions.
Yes his team has three losses, but Cindy Crawford has a mole near her lip. Get over it. Tebow has had a record-breaking season against a back-breaking schedule. He has done things no player has ever done before, and no other candidate can claim that. In two weeks, he'll make some more history.
