Florida Headed to Orlando

The Florida Gators will make their third appearance in the Capital One Bowl played at the Orlando Citrus Bowl. The Gators will face Big Ten foe Michigan in just the second ever meeting between the two schools.

***Urban Meyer's thoughts on heading to the Capital One Bowl***

The Gators faced Michigan in the 2003 Outback Bowl. The Wolverines bested the Gators 38-30, beginning a three game losing streak for Florida in bowl games. They would eventually snap the streak with their win over Iowa in the 2006 Outback Bowl during Urban Meyer's first season in Gainesville.

Florida will make its 11th appearance in a New Year's Day bowl game. Their last appearance was the '06 Outback Bowl. The Gators are 5-5 when playing on January 1.

The Gator coaching staff has some familiarity with the Wolverines. Co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Greg Mattison coached in Ann Arbor from 1992-96. Meyer is also familiar with the Wolverines, beginning his coaching career at Ohio State and also facing the Wolverines as an assistant at Notre Dame.

Florida was holding out hope for a BCS bowl bid, but both LSU and Georgia were automatic qualifiers and conferences are limited to only two BCS teams. The Tigers will face Ohio State in the BCS National Championship Game, and Georgia faces Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl.

Kick off is at 1:00 p.m. and the game will air on ABC. The University of Florida is taking ticket requests through their ticket ordering system. More information can be found on the athletic department's website.
