Burks Favors Florida

[MEDIA:52802] UFI finally caught up with linebacker Justin Burks. Burks is the top rated LB prospect from the JUCO ranks. He plays on the inside for Cerritos Junior College in California. He officially visited Florida this past weekend. Burks is NOT committed to Florida yet... at least not publically.

The Florida Gators are setting pretty with perhaps the top Junior College linebacker in the nation, Justin Burks. Burks, 6-2 and 235 pounds, officially visited Florida this weekend. Although he did not commit to the Gators, Florida currently leads for Burks.

"It was a great trip and a great game," said Burks. "It was just an exciting time down there. They showed me a good time and those coaches are very cool. I really like Coach (Tyke) Tolbert, Double D (Dwayne Dixon) and Coach (John) Thompson. They have a great scheme and they lose Bam (Hardmon) and (Mike) Nattiel. I know if I pick Florida that I can come in and start."

Burks played his high school football at Belflower (Calif.) and he signed with UTEP. But he was a partial qualifier and decided to return home and enroll at Cerritos Junior College.

"I was real discouraged and wanted to quit playing. But my mom kept my head up and she has been such a big help. I was so disappointed it didn't work out at UTEP but my mom kept me positive."

For now, Burks is concentrating on academics, mainly Intro to Psychology. That is the one class he has too pass to get to the next level. In regards to the next level, Florida is his leader but he is also eyeing two other programs in the same part of the country.

"I also like LSU and North Carolina. Florida is my favorite and that is where all the great ball is played. The Gators have a great program, they are on TV every week, I can play early and show my talent to the NFL. Look at all the guys in the league from Florida."

Cerritos JUCO is ranked number two nationally. Burks is playing middle linebacker. They are 5-0 and he has 72 tackles and 7 sacks. Florida is also recruiting an offensive lineman from Cerritos named Anthony Guerrero(6-3, 315). He is a guard prospect that is schedule to visit Florida on December 6th.

The mid-term Junior College kids will sign on December 12th, according to Burks. That is something we will check on.
