SEC Hoops Preview: Georgia

It's been a long road back from the NCAA sanctions and scholarship limitations that have plagued the UGA program since Jim Harrick's firing. And this was supposed to be the year that head coach Dennis Felton finally had the Bulldogs back in contention.

But before it could even begin, the team's two leading scorers, Takais Brown and Mike Mercer, were kicked off the team for academic infractions. It's a crushing blow to a program that is still suffering from depth issues, but by all accounts it was something that had to be done. The team still has some talented contributors to go along with a promising freshman class. It will take a bit longer but the Bulldogs appear to be headed in the right direction.

Even with the loss of Brown and Mercer, the Bulldogs have a solid roster with some experienced upperclassmen. Sundiata Gaines and Billy Humphrey man the back court and are the predominant scorers with 11.8 and 12.3 points per game respectively. Terrence Woodbury moves to the starting lineup where he has done well alongside senior center David Bliss. They're backed by Rashaad Singleton and Albert Jackson inside. The team is also getting support from a foursome of freshmen that should form the nucleus of the team in coming years.

The Gators host Georgia on February 9 and head to Athens on February 27.
