After de-committing from Miami a month ago McCray stated that he was going to take a few more official visits to make a more informed decision. He said his time at FSU this weekend was a good time. He said, "I had fun on this visit. Getting a chance to have a one-on-one conversation with the winningest coach in college football history was a great experience. I'm really interested in FSU and I liked everything about the visit. One thing we talked about was the suspensions and the players that'll be missing time next year. That really stood out to me because there is a chance for a lot of playing time. I talked to the coaches a lot about it. The error the players made was a lack of judgment and I think it's a common error players make."
One of the players that McCray spent a lot of time with was Nigel Bradham. While they were in San Antonio for the Army All-American game the two linebackers got along very well, and that carried over to this weekend as Bradham was McCray's host. He explains, "Nigel and I are good friends. He was recruiting me a lot to come to FSU. We spent time together in San Antonio and we hung out a lot when I was up there (in Tallahassee). We talk a lot overall."
While the standout linebacker was on his visit one of the things he did was have a meeting with linebackers coach Chuck Amato. "I had a meeting with Coach Amato. We talked about the playing time available and the linebacker situation overall. They are recruiting me as a Will. The situation there is appealing and the playing time available is a big factor for me," stated McCray.
Over a month ago Florida State announced that Jimbo Fisher was going to be the next head coach. Fisher was one of the coaches McCray spent some time with, and McCray states he came away impressed. He said, "I could see myself playing for Coach Fisher. He is a cool guy. He was telling me about his time at LSU and how he helped recruit the National Champions. He was telling me how when he got to LSU they were something like 2-9, and he eventually helped build them into an SEC and National Title team. He was comparing that to how FSU is and feels that in 3 or 4 years FSU will be playing for the same things."
The visit can be looked at as a success. For McCray the visit was great, but it wasn't perfect. "I'd rate the visit a 9. It's hard for me to rate something as perfect. Hanging out with Coach Bowden was the thing that probably stood out the most. Meeting and hanging out with the players did too. FSU is Tallahassee and it is a nice college town. I'd say after the visit FSU has a legit shot," stated McCray.
Now that his official to FSU is out of the way McCray states he plans on making an official to Florida next weekend. He stated, "I am planning on making my visit to Florida next weekend. Right now I'd say FSU is sticking out to me and they are in the lead. Comparing them to my other visits, I'd say they were about the same, but it comes down to comfort. Even if all the playing time was available I wanted, I won't go there if I'm not comfortable." McCray addressed the rumor that he has been a Florida lean, stating, "FSU is in the lead, and I am also considering Florida and LSU. A lot of people have been pushing me to Florida because it is so close. People have thought I'd be going there because of that. But I have never said Florida was out front."
McCray states that after he makes his visit to Florida he is not sure when a decision will be made. A good visit to the local Gators will most likely give McCray something to think about, but at this time Florida State is in the lead. If they stay that way after his last official next week, it looks like the Noles will have a great shot to land Lerentee come National Signing Day.
