Meyer Touts Newcomers

Florida football coach Urban Meyer is eager to get his fourth spring practice underway, and particularly eager to get a good look at the newcomers to the Florida squad. Meyer talked up comes of his newcomers in his annual pre-spring media gathering.

Meyer talked about the members of this year's signing class who enrolled in January and had quite a bit to say about transfer running back Emmanuel Moody who will get his first chance to compete for the starting job this spring.

Here is what the Florida head man has to say about the guys in question.

Emmanuel Moody --- "I walk by him every day and I don't say hello, I just say I hope you're really good. I don't know what else to say. I know he's doing fine in school and I ask how he's going in class and he says fine. When I see him now before I say anything he says, "I know, you hope I'm really good". There's not a better person in terms of in depth conversations. He's extremely articulate, very smart, and very religious. He wants to be a pastor some day. The substance is unbelievable; I just hope he's really good."

Carl Moore and Troy Epps --- "They kind of went through that far away look that a lot of them have when they first get here. Both are doing very well. Troy had got to do a little better in school. Carl is a terrific young man. He's doing good in school, he's doing good in football and we'll find out what kind of football player he is in about two weeks. I'll be very surprised if we're not really pleased with him."

Jeremy Brown and Janoris Jenkins --- "The prizes so far are probably to two freshman corners. Jeremy Brown and Janoris Jenkins are two guys that --- the minutes I say this they're going to get me --- haven't missed a class and don't have any issues. I used to say they're "yes sir, no sir guys" but nowadays that doesn't matter. Anyone can say yes, sir, but they actually do it. They're in class, they work hard and they train. Now can they cover our receivers? We'll find out, but I'm impressed with those guys.

Earl Okine --- "Earl Okine is doing great. We're very pleased he's here. He's had a great off season and he's falling into that "freak" category and we're anxious to watch him play.

Meyer says Brandon Beal is "doing good". As for kicker Caleb Sturgis, "He's a kicker. We'll find out of he can hit it or not."

In two weeks we'll all starting learning about the Gators of 2008.
