Harvin Possibly Out for Spring

Both Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy didn't suit up for Monday's practice. For Murphy, it's a staph infection and he could be back in practice by the end of the week. For Harvin, though, he might be done for the spring.

Percy Harvin has been slowed by minor injuries throughout his Gator career, but this time, Urban Meyer and the Gators are hoping to catch it before it becomes more serious. A chronic heel injury has aggravated Harvin since last fall and it's not getting better. Meyer said after Harvin missed Monday's practice that the sophomore may sit out the remainder of the spring.

Harvin is in a boot and the staff is looking into getting a second opinion for the Gators' star receiver. Regardless, with both Harvin and Murphy out, the Gator receiving corps lacked some of its punch during Monday's workout. It gave receivers David Nelson, Justin Williams and Deonte Thompson some extra reps and a chance to shine.

Here are some other notes from Monday's practice...

Just a few notes from practice today...
  • Larry Vettel asked Meyer if there's been any improvement with the defensive line. Meyer responded, "No."
  • Paul Wilson got flattened by Ahmad Black during a contact drill. It looked like Wilson injured his left knee. He had to be helped of the field.
  • In some other notable match-ups --- Jason Watkins defeated Jermaine Cunningham, Jacques Rickerson defeated Riley Cooper and Cornelius Ingram beat out Brendan Beal.
  • For the first time this spring they worked on kick returns and two-minute drill. Deonte Thompson was returning kicks and looked very comfortable and natural back there. Rainey was also returning kicks and looked as good as he looked last fall.
  • During the two-minute drill, Joe Haden picked off Tim Tebow in the end zone. After every big play made by the defense, co-defensive coordinator Chuck Heater has the entire unit celebrate together. Haden said it's something the coaches are trying to get them to do to focus on the unit instead of the individual.
  • Ryan Stamper joined A.J. Jones in a non-contact jersey today. Jones had wrist surgery and has his right wrist wrapped.
  • Wondy Louis-Pierre and Rickerson both had interceptions, and Justin Williams and Carl Moore had a couple of great catches.
