Gators Heading to the Big Apple

The Florida Gators secured a trip to New York City with a 70-57 win over Arizona State in Tempe. Florida shot 60 percent from the floor, propelling them to the school's third ever NIT Final Four appearance.

The Gators used a 17-3 run to start the game to build a first half cushion behind the hot outside shooting of Walter Hodge. Hodge knocked down three of his first four attempts from behind the arc en route to an 18 point performance.

Marreese Speights also had a big first half, scoring nine points in the first 20 minutes. Florida jumped out to a 35-29 lead at the break.

But the Sun Devils stormed back on their home floor, making four 3-point baskets in a three minute span. Jerren Shipp's 3 with 13:37 left gave ASU its first lead of the night, 47-45.

With the score tied at 50, Florida finished the game on a 20-7 run to close out the Sun Devils. Chandler Parsons came up huge in the second half scoring 13 points. Three buckets by Speights in the paint also helped Florida secure the road victory.

Florida finished the night making 60.5 percent of their shots. They also dished out 23 assists on 26 made baskets led by Calathes who had nine. The freshman guard also scored 11 and grabbed six rebounds. Speights finished with 16 points and nine rebounds and Parsons finished with 15 points off the bench.

The Gators will face Massachusetts in one of the NIT's semifinals next week in New York. The Minutemen rallied from a 17-point deficit to knock off Syracuse earlier in the night.
