At least that's according to defensive end prospect David Gilbert. Gilbert is a 6-4, 215-pound prospect with 4.7-speed. With Florida's individual camps currently going on, Gilbert said he doesn't foresee a trip to Gainesville in the near future unless it's with his other teammates.
"If the twins go (Isaac and Jacob Geffard) go, I'll probably go up," Gilbert said. "Right now, I have a lot of stuff planned, but it's all to get our team better for the fall."
Gilbert holds written offers from 15 schools, including Louisville, Vanderbilt, UConn, Iowa State, UCF, Wisconsin, FAU, FIU, Indiana, Kansas State, Purdue, South Carolina, Arkansas State, Marshall and Minnesota. He hasn't received one from Florida, but he has been talking to recruiting coordinator Billy Gonzales.
"I'm talking to coach Gonzales and he wants me to come up there and talk with coach Meyer," Gilbert said. "I'd be excited to get an offer."
As for the other two big Florida schools, Gilbert has no interest in Florida State because they don't have his major (physical therapy) and Miami has shown little interest despite him camping there, and he doesn't expect an offer.
Gilbert will graduate early and plans on early enrolling to the school of his choice, but he doesn't plan on announcing his decision until after his senior season wraps up.
As a junior, Gilbert recorded 57 tackles, nine sacks, eight tackles for a loss and two blocked field goals. He said he expects perfection on the football field and doesn't like to miss sacks even though he rarely does.
"The best part of my game is pass rush," he said. "Pass rush and reading the play at the line. I read hat, and I didn't get reach blocked at all last year."
Gilbert will also play tight end in the fall and changed his number to 11 for his recent spring game.
