Speights Lands in Philly

It's probably too soon to tell whether or not Marreese Speights made the right decision after deciding to leave Florida after just two seasons. But the former Gator center did land in the first round of the NBA Draft when the Philadelphia 76ers selected him with the 16th overall pick.

For the second straight season and for the third time in four years, the Florida Gators put someone into the NBA's first round.

Marreese Speights finished his sophomore season as the Gators' second leading scorer, averaging 14.5 points per game. He led the Gators with 8.1 rebounds per game and blocked a team high 49 shots. Speights also had the team's highest field goal percentage, making 62.4 percent of his shots.

Last season, Florida saw three players drafted in the first round - Al Horford, Corey Brewer and Joakim Noah. In 2005, David Lee was drafted in the first round by the New York Knicks. Speights is the tenth Gator to be selected in the first round - all but one have been under Billy Donovan.
