Jax TE Grew up a Gator Fan

Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles tight end Mason Johnston has a few connections to the University of Florida. His father is a UF alum and he grew up rooting for the Gators, but he's still waiting for the coveted offer from Florida.

Can you talk about the teams that have shown interest in you at this point?

"Right now I have 11 offers: Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana, N.C. State, Michigan State, Maryland, Duke, Iowa State, Cincinnati, UCF and Tulane."

Did you have any childhood favorites growing up?

"I have been a Gator fan as long as I can remember, growing up in Jacksonville and with my father going to Florida."

Do you know which schools that you will visit or camp at moving forward?

"I just finished up camps at Florida, North Carolina and Duke."

Talk about what the most important factors are for you in picking a school?

"The most important factors for me are academics, relationships with coaches, the school's facilities and just how well the ‘fit' is with the school, where I feel the most at home and can see myself for four years."

When would you ideally like to make your decision?

"I'm really not sure whether I will commit before the season. I want to make sure that I have enough time to sit down with my parents and coaches and talk about the decision as well as visit all these schools before making my choice."

When you were at Florida, could you see yourself playing for the Gators and why?

"I really could see myself playing for the Gators if the opportunity presents itself. For me, it has been a dream since childhood."

Talk about your relationship/talks with the coaches a UF especially Urban Meyer?

"My recruiting coordinator is coach Mullen, and I have really enjoyed hearing what Florida has to offer from him. When I went to the camp I met coach Hevesy and coach Meyer for the first time actually. Coach Hevesy, the tight ends, coach taught me numerous things in a short period of time, and I had a great time working with him and learning new techniques. Meeting coach Meyer was a great experience and he worked with me on route running technique. Coach Meyer overall is a great head coach as well as being a really nice guy."

What were you most impressed with about the University of Florida?

"I was most impressed with the coaching staff and the stadium facilities."

How do you feel that you would fit into the system that the Gators run?

"With Florida's system, a tight end needs to be able to do a little bit of everything, and I feel that is one of my strengths as a player."

How do your mom and dad feel about the Gators at this time?

"My parents have always been Gator fans and would be thrilled if I played at the University of Florida."
