TE Visits Florida

Are the Florida Gators on the verge of getting a verbal commitment from one of the top Junior College tight ends?

One of Florida's need area this recruiting season is tight end. They are hot after David Kenner. If the name does not sound familiar that is because he is from Lackawanna Junior College in Pennsylvania. Kennner, 6-4 and 255 pounds, officially visited the Gators this past weekend.

"It was a good visit," said Kenner. "I am pretty excited about the Gators. I learned a lot about the program, players and the academic stuff."

Kenner visited the University of Kentucky the week before. He happened to see one of the most exciting SEC games in recent memory. "It was a very good game. I like Kentucky. They have more good players than people think. I mean they have some players."

Kenner is scheduled to visit Kansas this weekend, Kansas State (12-6) and Maryland (12-13). But the recruiting process may not last that long. "Right now, I am leaning to Florida. I may have a decision in the next day or two... maybe a week. I need to talk with my family and figure this thing out. Plus, I need to speak with the coaches. I would like to still take my visits. But once I commit, it will be for sure because I am a man of my word."

Kenner attended Frankfort High School in Philadelphia. He graduated in 1999 and was being recruited by Syracuse, Pittsburgh, UCLA and some other big schools.

"I took everything for granted back then. I thought everything should have been given to me. When it came crunch time, I did not have my grades and I couldn't sign with anyone. So, I went out in the real world and got a job. It turned out to be a great life lesson for me because I learned how to be an adult and that I need to work for everything in life. Nothing is given to you. In all honesty, it really benefited me."

Kenner enrolled at Lackawanna in the spring of 2001. He plans on graduating in December and enrolling this fall. In two years of JUCO football, he has 16 touchdown receptions. This past season, he caught 30 passes.

"Right now, I am a better receiver because it is so natural to me. I can run after the catch. My blocking is getting better because I am getting stronger. In the end, I think I will become a very good blocker."

In high school, Kenner played tight end, running back, linebacker and kicker.
