Harvey was the eighth pick in the NFL draft last April and will reportedly get a five-year deal worth anywhere from $24-33 million depending on playing time, honors and accomplishments. However, only $17 million or so is guaranteed. (Forgive me for using "only")
Harvey's 33 day holdout is another example of why the leadership of the NFL will be pushing for a rookie wage scale in the next collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association. The NFL is tired of guaranteeing so much money to guys who have never played in the league while cutting useful veterans in order to create "cap space" for such signings.
