FG Recruiting Flash

It is no secret that head coach Urban Meyer loves to recruit the best players in the nation regardless of location. For the class of 2009, the Gators have been actively pursuing some of the best prospects in the country.

5-11 and 190-pound Jaamal Berry of Miami Palmetto is not only one of the top running backs in the country but one of the top players regardless of position. Berry has been slowed by a broken left wrist the last two weeks but still manages 150 yards and three rushing touchdowns a game with ease. The cast could come off as early as this week's game and when it does look out. Berry is committed to Ohio State.

5-11 and 215-pound Trent Richardson has reached legendary status across the Internet with his performance last week of more than 400 yards rushing and six touchdowns on 29 carries. On the year Richardson has 10 touchdowns and more than 600 yards of rushing. Trent Richardson is committed to Alabama.

I mentioned in chat that the Gators were looking at three players in particular that are currently committed to other teams. I would like to add two more to the mix. Both have serious interest in the Gators with one receiving an offer this week and the other on the heels of a written offer. Again, both are committed to other teams.

Bob Redman and I are all over this and as soon as we can let you know who these particular players are you will be the first to know. Right now there is no reason to make the names public especially with them being committed to other teams. All that will do is put an intense amount of pressure on those players. Right now, it's a wait and see approach and we'll keep you posted as things move forward.

The player that received his written offer this week had this to say, "It made me very happy to receive the Florida offer, and to answer your question, it does change things for me moving forward. I talked to the coaches earlier in the week and tried to call again last night but forgot that they can only call once a week, so I am going to call again tonight if I can work it out."

The player that has yet to receive his written offer from the Gators had this to say, "If Florida decides that I am the kind of player that they need, then obviously I will listen to what they have to say."
