Burton Continues to Improve

One of the staples of the 2010 recruiting class is quarterback Trey Burton. This past week Trey accounted for five total touchdowns as Venice (FL) won its first district game of the season. Here is this week's football diary with Trey Burton and Cindy Burton-Macfarlane.

I am so happy to report we won our first district game Friday night 35-7 against Lakewood Ranch. We are in district 5A in the state of Florida, with St. Thomas Aquinas in first place, we are currently ranked ninth. This district is no joke; you cannot take any team for granted despite their record. It's sort of like the SEC but on a smaller scale, you never know what can happen, and all these kids are tough, so you just have to take it to them every week.

Trey had 167 yards passing with two touchdowns and 135 yards rushing with three touchdowns. We are so grateful for protection and guidance. Our defense was caught sleeping for one long pass for a touchdown, but after that it was lights out. The coaches at the Touchdown/Linebacker Club dinner last night spoke of wanting us to play four quarters of great football. We seem to start out slowly and then play so much better after getting chewed out at half time. I believe we are in really great physical shape, and it seems like the whole team could play an additional two or three quarters because they get warmed up and take off. Clay's uniform was extremely dirty (we wore white on white) so I know he was working hard. He has great leaders on the defense to look up to, and he admires Coach Shannon very much. He has quite a course load in all honors classes and maintains a 4.2 GPA. Trey is on track to graduate early so he can work out with the Gators during the spring of what would be his senior year.

This Friday we travel to Golden Gate High School in Naples, they beat us at our homecoming game last year so we need to even it up a little bit this year.

In Moms in Touch this morning we prayed Colossians 3:23-24 that "whatsoever you do, do it with all your heart as unto the Lord and not unto man", and I can appreciate that so much, because the world is so critical but God considers us valuable.
