Cornileus Impressed by The Swamp

One of the hardest hitting defenders in the class of 2010 has had a busy fall so far. Not only is he laying into ball carriers with his head hunting prowess, he is also busy traveling to college campuses and checking them out. On Saturday night, Stone Mountain (GA) Stephenson safety/linebacker Tyrone Cornileus (6-1, 175) was in The Swamp to watch the Floria Gators dismantle the LSU Tigers.

Before Cornileus visited Gainesville this weekend, he took a trip to Athens (GA) to catch the Georgia Bulldogs play the Alabama Crimson Tide. Georgia came out on the wrong end of that game, but Cornileus came away enjoying the experience.

"Two weeks ago I went to see the Georgia-Alabama game," Cornileus said. "The atmosphere was great, I really like the attention that I received from the recruiting coordinator and the coaches. I got a chance to meet the linebacker coach, we talk several times before the game. He remembered me from camp and said that he had received some great reports on me. About 20 minutes before the game started one of the recruiting coordinators took me and my dad in the locker room to me Coach Richt. I was very impressed with that opportunity, he seem like a really great guy.

"While on the sideline, I had an opportunity to talk with Demario Mintor, a former Georgia Bulldog as well as a player from my school, Stephenson. I also had a chance to talk with Caleb King. He and I have been training together off-season for the last two years. It was good talking with him."

That attention he got while on campus at Georgia also turned to his own campus when expert recruiter Rodney Garner showed up to Stephenson for a visit.

"The following week, Coach Garner specifically came to my school to talk with my coaches and me about my interest in playing football at Georgia," Cornileus said. "I told him that at the present time I am very interested in several schools in the SEC, Georgia being one of them at the top."

This weekend Cornileus traveled to Gainesville to take in the big game atmosphere from The Swamp. The Gators were rocking Saturday night and finished with a resounding win over LSU. During the visit Cornileus was able to talk to the coach that is recruiting him to Florida, Kenny Carter.

"This weekend my family and I went to the Florida-LSU," Cornileus said. "Like always, I walked away very impressed. I did not get an opportunity to speak with any players, however I did get to spend some time with Coach Carter. We talked about my performance this season. He was very impressed with my stats, especially what I did the night before against our cross-town rival Redan High School. That night I had at least 8-10 solo tackles, several assists, one sack, and an interception for a 47-yard touchdown. Coach Carter indicated that Florida was very interested in me. Coach Carter did mentioned that I should focus on putting on more weight for my position.

"The atmosphere at Florida was unbelievable. The crowd was loud and very involved in the game. With out any doubt, I can see myself running through the tunnel as a Gator."
