Five-Star Lineman Pays Gators Surprise Visit

Part of the recruiting process is getting prospects familiar with your school and its surroundings. It is usually a great thing when the prospect visits and gets to know the campus and people. If there happens to be a blow out victory against a nationally ranked team on hand as well...then all the better. Five-star offensive tackle Xavier Nixon made another trip to Gainesville on Saturday.

Fayetteville (NC) Jack Britt offensive tackle Xavier Nixon (6-6. 285), made his second trip to Gainesville to see the Gators play this season and according to his mother, Master Sergeant Fotini Nixon, Xavier was really impressed again with everything he saw.

Master Sergeant Nixon had a car full on the way to Gainesville. The car load of football prospects are some of Xavier's best friends and biggest influences on him. According to Ms. Nixon, the University of Florida got the seal of approval so far.

"We had a wonderful time," Master Sergeant Nixon said. "I brought five seniors from Xavier's football team. I packed everyone in my car. We left Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and got into Lake City about 2:30 and then drove into Gainesville.

"All I could say is it was a great visit and everyone had a great time. If they didn't have to go to school on Monday we would have stayed another day and took another trip (from Lake City) to see the whole school. We wanted to take them around the school and see how college life is and the University of Florida is, because his friends have a lot of impact on him too."

Of course the highlight of the trip was the game itself. Florida came out from the very beginning and controlled the game against the third ranked Tigers. The crowd was crazy in the stands and the over all atmosphere is something that can't be matched anywhere else.

"They really, really, really, enjoyed it, it was a great game," Ms. Nixon said. "It was a great crowd and was lively. I didn't expect Florida to beat them that bad, but they put a whoopin' on LSU."

One thing that has stood out for Xavier, his coach and now his mother is that the style of offense at Florida is very similar to what Nixon plays in high school. It is definitely a plus in they eyes of mom.

"I'll tell you what...for me, the way they played is what fits in with the way he plays in high school on the offensive line," she said. "I don't know if they run the ball a lot, but the offensive line looked good.

"I know he was out there during the pre-game warm ups. The style is similar to our style at Jack Britt. I think that is an offense that he would fit in very well."

Unfortunately for big game weekends, one issue is the amount of time the coaches can spend with the prospects. With a car full of big bodies needing to get back home time wasn't a luxury they had. However, Xavier got to spend some time with the Florida coaching staff.

"He didn't spend a lot of time, but he did get to speak to Coach Meyer, Addazio and Coach Carter who is recruiting him," mom said.

Still with official visits left to Miami and LSU, Xavier Nixon has a lot of positives to take away from his two fall trips to the University of Florida. Stay tuned as we follow him through the rest of this recruiting process.
