That was Just Too Easy

One thing folks around SEC Football like to brag about is that every game is a war. Nothing comes easily in the rough and tumble SEC. Well, maybe Ringo was wrong when he sang, "It Don't Come Easy", because sometimes it does. Saturday in The Swamp was about as easy as it ever gets.

It was clear coming into the game that only a succession of Florida mistakes could keep this undermanned Kentucky team in the game. The Mildcats came into Gainesville without their top receiver, top runner and six defensive starters all banged up. Well, at least nobody else got hurt.

Florida made a joke of this "contest" early; blocking consecutive Tim Masthay punts to set up scoring drives of three and one yards. When Masthay finally got a punt past the line of scrimmage Florida quickly drove 61 yards on four plays for another score. Another three-and-out was followed by another scoring drive that took all of four plays and it was 28-0 before the opening quarter was over. All that remained was to work out the final score, stay healthy and get ample playing time for guys on the bench.

Urban Meyer likes to point out that teams that block a kick win about 75 percent of the time. I would imagine teams that block three kicks in the first half win ALL the time.

Impressive Ten Quarter Run

Gator Nation was a nervous place three weeks ago. The Gators had allowed Ole Miss to come into Gainesville and leave with a win. Florida was looking at a road trip to Arkansas with powerhouse LSU after that. The team had to respond in a hurry if this season was to continue to have championship potential. Mission accomplished.

From the start of the Arkansas game to halftime against Kentucky, the Gators outscored a trio of SEC teams 152-33. That's domination. That's Spurrieresque domination.

Florida still looks vulnerable to a strong passing attack, but that test is coming up next Saturday. The bottom like is you can't quibble with the results. The Gators head to Jacksonville a legit SEC and BCS contender. And the Gators appear to be hitting their stride as just the right time.
