Meyer Starting to Like his Team

Two years ago when the Florida Gators won the national championship, Urban Meyer talked about how much he liked his team. He's starting to get that feeling about this year's group. He discussed that and the big game against Georgia during his Sunday teleconference.

Georgia and Florida peaking at the same time…
"I watched last night. I think that's what life is like in this conference. I've been here four years. We're two of the top programs and I'm very pleased with where we're at right now."

Tebow on saying they're going to show the fans something never seen before…
"One thing you have to be careful here at Florida is to focus on the game on the schedule. There are six different games like Miami, Tennessee, South Carolina, LSU, our rivals from Tallahassee. You just have to be careful about that kind of stuff. This one is important because it's the next one up and it's a big game in the SEC East."

Percy Harvin
"I have a lot of respect for Percy. Yesterday's game got out of hand and one of my jobs as a coach is making sure guys are getting their touches, but it's also to watch the players. I had to grab him during the game and tell him that with his ankle, I was going to rest him, and he said coach don't worry about it, I understand. He's fine. I think it comes with maturity and I'm very impressed with him."

Stopping Knowshon Moreno
"He's a great running back, and we're going to have to single gap it and put an extra guy in the box. They also lead the SEC in passing. Guys are going to have to stay in their gaps and you see with that 60-yard run yesterday, we have to tackle well."

On Tebow's energy feeding the rest of the team…

"I think it's had a big effect, but Tim has a way of communicating very well. You can look at the Pouncey's and Matt Patchan. The persona and the quarterback that Tim Tebow is gets a lot of attention, but there are a lot of other guys who do it, too. They just don't get to communicate it as well."

Motivation tools for the week…

"I'll meet with the strength staff and we'll make a decision on that later this week. When you look at the fact that when we played Miami and we hadn't beaten them in 25 years. When we played Tennessee we could control the conference and with South Carolina. Every week on the schedule, there will be something and our strength staff will look at it."

Last year's Georgia loss the worst effort of the year…

"Yes, especially on defense. I felt like we were young and immature. We've had some personnel changes and some growing up. A perfect example is that we did not block a field goal last year. We already have two this year. Blocking a field goal is nothing but hard work and effort."

The Georgia stomping incident…

"One of the great pieces of advice I ever got ever got was from Lou Holtz before we played Ohio State. He said make sure you play the game on January 8 at 7:00 and not on December 26. We have to peak on Saturday. We have to be ready at 3:30 on Saturday not at 5:00 on Saturday night after we just beat Kentucky."

Needing motivation for Saturday…

"I'm starting to have some admiration for this team and I haven't had that in a while. I'm seeing a professional approach and last year we didn't have that. On offense, I thought there were some very professional attitudes, but overall this team is really starting to handle bye weeks pretty well. They're handling days off very well and whatever is said in the locker room is staying there."

Transformation of the offense…

"What was involved was recruiting and some very good coaching from the running backs coach. We've now got some very reliable guys in big games. An example is Janoris Jenkins playing at cornerback who can get exposed, but there are some accountable guys. The growth has been faster than expected. You saw Demps who was a guy that had to transform his track speed into football speed, but you tell him to jump and he asks how high. He works that hard."

Defense feeding off of Spikes…

"It's the middle linebacker position. Brandon Siler was a guy that the defense relied on few years ago. You rely on the middle linebacker and safety for effort, energy and motivation. Brandon Spikes has one of those contagious personalities."

Mickey Marotti handling the motivation…

"Coach Marotti, we're fortunate to have him. We think a lot and he pretty much has free reign. I trust him."

On pre-game routine before Georgia…

"There's no turn the music up a little louder or put a special inscription up on the video wall. This is a big game and it's for the SEC East, which is our ultimate goal. I want to make sure our team focuses on what's important and what's not important."

Patchan's and Trattou's role on blocked kicks…

"They are the two best players on our team as far as get off the ball explosiveness. I need that kind of personnel. One of the hardest jobs out there is to snap the ball 14 yards and then be ready to block. We've had great success this year with Patchan and Trattou and William Green."
