Meyer to Address Team on BCS

With their win against Vanderbilt combined with Penn State's loss, the Florida Gators moved up a spot in the BCS standings to No. 4 and inch closer to a possible national championship. Meyer discussed how he'll handle that with his team during his Sunday teleconference.

On the impact of the Ole Miss loss...
"The problem with college football in places like Florida is that you lose juniors early to the draft. That affects your talent level and also impacts your maturity level. Every single time we feel like we're getting some maturity, we have a couple seniors leave. The '06 team is a perfect example. That team was ready to go for the next year and all of a sudden Ryan Smith, Jarvis Moss, Reggie Nelson and Brandon Siler leave early. I don't think it's something dramatic, it's just the normal progress of maturity on a football team."

On Tim Tebow running...
"He is an extremely aggressive running. We run something called a zone read where you have a choice. They made the decision to put it on the quarterback and Tim pulled it a couple of times. A couple of those were forced by the defense."

On not playing a 'big' game...
"It is a rivalry game. First of all, South Carolina is a very good team and then you have the built in rivalry of coach Spurrier coming back."

On handling South Carolina changing QBs...
"I have no idea. We'll take a look at it. Obviously, the quarterbacks are good."

On improving from last night's win...
"Defensively, especially when the twos get in there, I'm very disappointed with the performance of the twos. Offensively, we just have to clean some stuff up. There are certainly always things to improve on."

On the importance of the next three games...
"It's real important. There's a lot at stake. I don't mind anyone saying that there's a lot at stake. First, the goal is getting to Atlanta and second to be in the national picture. We have a lot of guys that understand where we're at right now."

On William Green's move to linebacker...
"We wanted him to move. Coach Strong wanted him on the field and right now we have Jermaine Cunningham and Duke Lemmens at the fox spot and defensive end. We moved him because we think he's going to eventually be a great player and we wanted to get him on the field. I don't know if it will be a permanent move."

On the team's leaders...
"I'm the kind of person that relies on leaders all the time. Sometimes we have a lot of good leaders and sometimes we have none. The Jason Watkins, Trautweins and Tartts are a perfect example. There's a reason why our offensive line has played really good. Not only do we have good players, but we also have some very invested players with that group. … I put a leader above a good player because they make the people around them play better."

On addressing the BCS with the team...
"We have some experience with that. It started back in 2004 at Utah. These kids obviously understand it. I want these kids to have a clear idea of where we need to go."

On the 2006 game against South Carolina...
"We screwed around on offense. We tried some trick plays or to stall and that's not like us. We're usually very proficient in the red zone. I remember there were a couple of key plays that kept them into long field goal range and I remember a 6-5 guy jumping real high and the loudest I've ever heard that stadium. Those are some great memories."

On not having a close game recently...
"I worry about yhat a little bit. We had some at the beginning of the year. There's nothing you can do about it. I worry about it, but I worry about everything. I saw Alabama had a very close one in a tough environment and that makes them a little more battle ready. There's only so much you can control. In three games we're going to go against coach Spurrier and then coach Bowden and then coach Saban."
