Venice Marches On

Trey Burton and his Venice teammates made quick work Friday night of North Port, 56-13, a game in which the starters didn't see the field in the second half. Venice is now 9-0 on the year and Trey Burton added three more rushing touchdowns. Once again, thanks to Cindy Burton-MacFarlane and Trey Burton for giving us the inside look on and off the field.

This Friday we beat North Port 56-13 to remain 5-0 in the district for the second year straight, and 9-0 on the season. The score was 49-6 at the half, Trey with three rushing touchdowns and Dri Archer with four, so the starters sat out the entire third and fourth quarters. Clay is still playing defensive end and tight end, and he seems to enjoy both. Both boys slept a lot this weekend, and they seem rested and ready for the long haul of the playoffs.

First, we have to finish out the season playing Booker this Friday, a team we haven't beaten since 2002. The last time Venice went 10-0, they won the State Championship in 2000. Coach Peacock said last night at the Touchdown/Linebacker Club dinner that Booker may be 4-5 this year, but they are always athletic and will give us a good test, especially our defense. We are grateful to have home field advantage for the first round of the playoffs against Cape Coral. We are looking forward to attending the Gator game against South Carolina this weekend.

Our Football Moms and Fans Club will feed the team an Italian dinner Thursday night, of course Rice Krispie treats for the o-line from me, because they are keeping my son safe, and we have invited the entire team plus coaches and families to First Baptist of Venice this Sunday to hear Trey give his testimony, with lunch afterward provided by the church staff. Trey has practiced numerous times with Coach Bryson and Pastor Tom in front of an empty sanctuary, so I am confident he will do just fine. I am praying for salvation for every boy on our team.

At Mom's in Touch this morning we prayed John 8:12 for the boys, "Then spoke Jesus again unto them, saying I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
