A Proud Coach

When Urban Meyer looked at the condition of Bobby Bowden Field on Saturday before the game, he was very concerned. But the wet condition didn't seem to impact the play of the Gators, and they had one proud coach when it was all said and done.

Opening statement...
"I'm very appreciative of the efforts of our players. I have two concerns and that's Brandon Antwine and we'll find out more tomorrow. And our playmaker. Percy Harvin has a sprained ankle. A very talented opponent and that's as hard as we've played. The environment, the weather, there were all sorts of things that were equalizers. That was as proud of a football team I've ever been.

On the weather conditions...
"I was very concerned. I know a big part of our game is speed. I stared out there and saw that field getting 2-3 inches deep with water. I've been saying it for about 6-7 weeks, the professionalism and the way the guys are handling themselves has been very good. To see Chas Henry hit that punt that completely changed the field was professional. To see David Nelson go out and execute that onsides kick, that's professionalism."

On the team's performance considering the conditions...
"I've done this for quite a while and I'm as proud as I've ever been. That's a good football team in there."

On the play of the defense...
"The defense played fantastic. We had a couple of drops on interceptions. FSU the last couple weeks have been bunching numbers up pretty good. Our guys did a good job."

On the play of the O-line...
"We ran for 317 yards against that defense and that's one of the top defenses in the nation. It's a well-coached defense and our offensive line played as well as they have."

On the success in rivalries...
"We're 12-1, but who's counting. Our coaches love them, and this is why you come to play at Florida. We don't play just one rival a year. We don't have to win this game, we have to win a bunch of them. To have a lot of former players come back and talk about them, it's why we do what we do."

On the long drives...
"A lot of those drives were the short yardage plays. At one point in the game we were going to have the ball direct snapped to Tebow and Harvin because we were not going to take a chance on the ball hitting the ground. A lot of those long drives were Tim managing those things and getting us first downs."

On Tim throwing a wet ball...
"It was great. I didn't want to throw it. Dan said just run the offense, but I panicked before the game. I said single wing all the way, and he said we can manage this thing. He did and Tim did. The two-minute drill, we had one timeout, and he took them right down the field without using that timeout."

On beating Bobby Bowden four years in a row...
"It humbles you because I really admire Coach Bowden and what he's done for this profession. It will never be done again what he and Coach Paterno are doing."

On holding them to field goals while scoring touchdowns...
"Our kickoff team was a joke today. We have to get that cleaned up, but our kickoff team was putting our defense in real bad position today. To hold them to a field goal, that's considered a plus on defense."

On Alabama...
"We had a couple of guys working on it and watching film during the week against The Citadel. They're a fine team."

On the special wristbands the team wore...
"It's Robert Webster the Pounceys' step-father. The team made the decision to go play for his family. Every one on the team has had some incident with their family and we had a team meeting about it before the game today. It was very emotional. Wednesday was tough. They went back home to have Thanksgiving with their family. We were texting and talking and the whole family has a great attitude and is doing great. It's an unbelievable family."

On whether Tim is more valuable this year versus last year...
"He's as valuable as they get. The thing is that he's not the lone wolf. There's a lot of cats out there doing a heck of a job."

On trying to get the ball to Aaron Hernandez...
"To throw the ball in our offense to a specific guy is tough. When you have a two receiver set it's one thing, but we have an x, y, z, p and a tailback. It's how the defense plays you and they decided to play us a certain way where Aaron was open."

On heading to the SEC Championship Game...
"I just love going to that Dome. That's why we play, it's why we get up n the morning and shave. It's why we hug our kids and we're going."

On the opening drive...
"It was great and Tim manged it real well. We had a couple third downs and that crowd was really into it. That and I think a 96-yard drive and that just silenced the crowd. The crowd was going to be a major factor and those drives silenced them."

On Tim's Heisman chances...
"I guess I got to start thinking about that. I don't have a vote. I got my quarterback. I know that. He's my choice."

On the kickoff coverage...
"I'll give credit where credit is due. They have the No. 1 kick returner in America, but we didn't play very well. But our defense, to hold them to a field goal in that situation is great."

On the play of Hernandez...
"To be honest with you not enough. He's not consistent. In my opinion he could be a high draft round pick in the NFL and one of the best tight ends in college football. He needs to continue to improve, but he played very well today."
