Alabama and Florida vs. Common Opponents

The Crimson Tide and the Gators played six common opponents this season and the results are quite interesting. Alabama, of course beat all six teams while Florida posted five wins and their lone loss to the Ole Miss Rebels.

Alabama played four of the teams on the road, while Florida played three at home, two on the road and one at a neutral site. The real differences are that Florida hosted LSU while ‘Bama played the Tigers in Baton Rouge and Alabama traveled to play Georgia in Athens and you all know where the Gators and Bulldawgs played. Now let's compare the scores:

Alabama Opponent Florida
29–9 Tennessee 30–6
24-20 Ole Miss 30–31
49–14 Arkansas 38–7
27–21 L-S-U 51–21
41–30 Georgia 49–10
17–14 Kentucky 63-5
187–108 Total Score 261-80

Alabama's average score is 31–18 --- Florida's average score is 43–13

I'm sure it's surprising to most that Florida would have given up fewer points in these games than Alabama has, but it's the truth. The biggest difference is the 30 Georgia scored in the second half of their game with ‘Bama as opposed to the ten they managed against Florida.

Of course the biggest difference of all is that Alabama survived its tough game with Ole Miss and the Gators didn't.
