Alex Tyus added 16, and two other Gators – Dan Werner (12) and Walter Hodge (13) scored in double figures. Florida shot well from long range, knocking down 8-of-19 3-pointers, but did get outrebounded and turned the ball over 11 times.
Florida started fast after hitting their first four field goal attempts. Four minutes in, the Gators opened up an 8-point lead, 11-3. They hit a pair of 3s and led 20-7 midway through the first half.
Stetson made a run late in the half when Florida turned the ball over four times and missed six of nine shots from the field. The Hatters hit three 3-pointers during a 21-10 run that narrowed Florida's lead to just two points, 30-28, with two minutes left before the half.
But Stetson missed their last five shots of the half, while Calathes hit a pair of free throws, Tyus scored and Hodge hit a 3 at the buzzer to give Florida a nine point edge at the break, 37-28.
Four minutes into the second half, the Gators opened it up. Leading 42-35 with 16:32 left, Florida went on a 15-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 60-37 lead. The Gators used three steals to get out on the break, scoring eight fast break points during the stretch.
Florida went scoreless over the next four minutes, but the closest the Hatters got was 13 points midway through the second half. With 2:46 left, Florida had its biggest lead of the afternoon, taking a 28-point lead, 77-49.
Eight of the ten Gators that played scored in the game. Chandler Parsons scored eight coming off his big game on Sunday against Winthrop. The sophomore made 2-of-5 from behind the arc and grabbed six boards. Tyus led the Gators on the boards with 10, notching another double-double.
Allan Chaney led the freshmen with three points, Ray Shipman scored two and Eloy Vargas scored one in his second game back.
The Gators held Stetson to just 29 percent shooting and 31 percent (9-of-29) from long range. Garfield Blair led the Hatters with 13 points.
The Gators face N.C. State at the O'Dome on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
