Ole Miss Win Looks Better

The Florida Gators' win over the Ole Miss Rebels was not something that was celebrated. In fact the prime topic coming out of that game was not the Gators' 78-68 victory. Instead all the talk was about Florida's 46-22 rebounding discrepancy. Not that I'm criticizing anyone for that, because I made a bigger issue of that than anyone else.

Well that win is looking a little better right now.

Ole Miss beat Kentucky Tuesday night to eliminate the last of the unbeaten teams in SEC play. The Rebels' 85-80 win was only their second in six SEC games and served as a reminder to every SEC team that no game is a gimme in 2009, including Florida's upcoming home game with winless (in the SEC) Georgia.

David Huertas, the former Gator scored 21 and helped Ole Miss make life difficult for Kentucky sharpshooter Jodie Meeks throughout the night. The SEC's top scorer finished with 21 points, but that's deceptive. Meeks made two long range shots in the final 13 seconds to improve to 4-for-15 on the night, but he wasn't lighting up the scoreboard on this night.

Sometimes the key to a successful season can be the messages you receive from the outside. With the worst team in the SEC in Gainesville Wednesday night, the Gator basketball team got a helluva message courtesy of Ole Miss.
