Florida Gators Hosting Junior Day

In the middle of several recruiting battles for some of the nation's top 2009 prospects, the Florida Gators will host more than 50 quality 2010 prospects on Saturday. Coming off a national championship and poised to try and make it two in a row, the Gators are off to a quick start. Florida already has four committed prospects for 2010. They look to add to that total soon after this weekend.

With signing day in the middle of next week, Florida is looking to get a jump on the competition by hosting a huge turnout of junior prospects. The Gators have already pinpointed many of the nation's top juniors and are busy making inroads to bring them on board. Again, the Gators will be looking to add some of every position to the roster in 2010 and will be looking at a bevy of top players this weekend.

The running back and offensive line look should be well represented with several of the top prospects on the early recruiting board visiting Gainesville this weekend. Here is just a taste of what Florida has to look forward to on Saturday.

LSU Game Class of 2010 Visitors
Trey Burton Venice (FL) Venice HS
QB |
Breakdown: Gators; first commitment for the class of 2010. Burton is a Tim Tebow clone end has remarkable stats for someone that hasn't played the position very long. Look for Burton to be a big recruiter for the Gators as this recruiting season rolls along.
Gator CommitmentTrey Burton Profile
Mack Brown Lithonia (GA)Martin Luther King HS
RB |
Breakdown: Big time running back from the Peach State. Brown really likes the Gators already and has all the tools, including size, that the Gators are looking for.
Mack Brown Profile
Roy Finch Niceville (FL) Niceville HS
RB
Breakdown: Definitely at or near the top of the running back board for the Gators. Finch just has that "IT" factor about him on the field. He knows how to make people miss and can run by them in the open field. He has visited Gainesville at least twice before.
Roy Finch Profile
Corvin Lamb Miami (FL) Northwestern
RB
Breakdown: A speedy back from Miami powerhouse Northwestern High School, Lamb is versatile enough to play receiver where he is currently listed in the Scout.com database.
Corvin Lamb Profile
Tiger Powell Lake City (FL) Columbia
RB |
Breakdown: A big bruising back, Tiger has been known to pile on the yards in games and is well coached. Powell isn't going to out run many fast defensive backs, but he is shifty and has quite a bit of power when running with the ball.
Tiger Powell Profile
Kedrick Rhodes Ocala (FL) Trinity Catholic
RB
Breakdown: From nearby powerhouse Trinity Catholic in Ocala, Rhodes has been quiet on the recruiting front. I am sure we will know much more about him as the recruiting process takes off.
Kedrick Rhodes Profile
Kadron Boone Ocala (FL) Trinity Catholic
WR
Breakdown: Boone is probably the highest rated local prospect to the Gainesville area. Gifted with speed, great agility, and decent size, Boone looks ready to step on a college campus and perform, The fact that he will be well schooled in technique and the game of football at a well coached Trinity Catholic, just makes him that much of a bigger recruiting target.
Kadron Boone Profile
Marquel Wade Jacksonville (FL) Jackson HS
WR
Breakdown: Wade plays for a well coached team in Jackson HS and is a relative unknown at this time. With the Gators losing quite a few from the receiver corps from the 2009 team, Wade will be watched carefully.
Marquel Wade Profile
Ted Meline Miami (FL) Booker T Washington
WR
Breakdown: Maybe the state's top receive and a big target at 6-3. Meline is tenacious when going for the ball and knows what to do with it when he catches it. Meline should be one of the top targets for the Gators for the 2010 class.
Ted Meline Profile
Charles Fashaw Miami (FL) Monsignor Pace
TE

"Prototype, versatile offensive linemen with the frame, back pedal, and toughness to be a national recruit. Continues the long line of outstanding St. Thomas offensive linemen. Back to back state champion. Close to being physically ready, needs to add a little more weight and some strength." Geoff Vogt
Leon Orr Profile
Chaz Green Tampa (FL) Catholic HS
OL
Breakdown: Big time offensive line prospect on a very good team. Chaz Green will be highly recruited by all of the state schools and most of the SEC before all is said and done.
Chaz Green Profile
Ian Silberman Orange Park (FL) Fleming Island
OL |
Breakdown: Cornerstone of Florida's 2010 offensive line class that may not be a very big one when all is said and done. Silberman will probably be recognized as the state of Florida's top offensive lineman for the 2010 class.
Gator CommitmentIan Silberman Profile
Jonathan Hankins Detroit (MI) Southeastern
DT |
Breakdown: At 6-2, and 315 pounds, Hankins has Omar Hunter size in high school. A big time motor, look for Hankins to get a serious look during the process.

LB
Breakdown: Local linebacker with great measurables. This one will be interesting to follow throughout the process.
Kevin Nelson Profile
Gideon Ajagbe Ransom Everglades HS
LB |
Breakdown: Excellent defensive athlete that depending on his growth, could play many places in the defensive back seven.
Gideon Ajagbe Profile
Tyrone Cornelius Stone Mountain (GA) Stephenson HS
LB
Breakdown: Big Gator fan that is making another trip to Gainesville where he has visited many times. Cornelius is another one that could play a few different positions in college, but looks to grow into a linebacker at this time. He comes from the same school as current Gator defender Jermaine Cunningham.
Tyrone Cornelius Profile
Matt Elam Palm Beach Gardens (FL) Dwyer HS
Saf
Breakdown: Big time commitment for the Gators from the class of 2010. Elam is very versatile himself and a star on offense and defense for Dwyer. The gators seem to love the very athletic type safeties.
Gator CommitmentMatt Elam Profile
Demar Dorsey Lauderdale Lakes (FL) Boyd Anderson HS

Gator CommitmentDemar Dorsey Profile
Cornelius Whitehead Mt. Dora (FL) Mt. Dora HS

Jaylen Watkins Profile
Blake Sims Gainesville (GA) Gainesville HS
Ath |
Breakdown: "Sims is a very athletic and versatile player who is as dangerous at QB as he is in the secondary. As he matures both physically and mentally, look for him to be a big-time contributor. As gifted as anyone, his understanding of the game is a bit behind, but he is very coachable. Sims projects as a safety at the next level but his athleticism and upside are probably going to keep him from being limited to just one position"--Burke Hayes
Blake Sims Profile
Christian Green Tampa (FL) Catholic HS
Ath
Breakdown: Could play a number of positions, but most are pegging him at tight end. Would be perfect in that position for Florida and the way they use the tight end.
