Five-Star LB Jelani Jenkins is a Gator

The Florida Gators got a little bit richer on signing day when five-star linebacker Jelani Jenkins went public with his decision to be a Florida Gator. The Gators continue their success at the position that they have had for a few years. The Wheaton (MD) Our Lady of Good Counsel phenom was a 2009 Under-Armour All-American and moved up the recruiting charts as the season progressed.

Jelani Jenkins joins Jon Bostic, an Army All-American, in the Gator fold and will provide immediate depth for an already strong Gators' linebacker corps. Listed as the No. 1 weakside linebacker by Scout.com, the 6-1, 200-pound Jenkins is a rocket when pursuing the ball carrier.

In the end it was a battle between Florida and Penn State for his services and those are the only two schools that Jelani Jenkins made official visits to.

The Gators have had great success recruiting linebackers under Head Coach Urban Meyer and defensive coordinator/linebacker coach Charlie Strong. They have landed Army All-Americans Brandon Spikes (2006), Lorenzo Edwards (2007), Lerentee McCray (2008), and Jon Bostic (2009) along with Jenkins and his 2009 status as an Under Armour All-American.

The Gators look to improve their status as the nationally fourth ranked scoring defense in 2008 and the ninth ranked total defense. Jelani Jenkins will allow them to make that step towards getting better.

We will be in touch with Jenkins as soon as possible for an interview.
