Dowling Drawing Early Attention from UF

The class of 2010 is loaded with talent, none more so than in the state of Florida and the Gators will look to get a stranglehold on the top players from the state as well as the Southeast. One of those players is safety Jonathan Dowling.

From Bradenton (FL) Southeast, Jonathan Dowling is 6-3.5 and 183-pounds. He posted a 4.5 40-time, benches 240 pounds, squats 320 pounds and power cleans 245 pounds. Dowling plays free safety and his first three offers are to play the same position at the next level. Florida, Georgia and South Florida have all offered at this time. One team in particular has showed the most attention, - the Florida Gators.

"Florida has recruited me the most right now," Dowling said. "They were my favorite team growing up and Deion Sanders was my favorite player."

Dowling made the trip to Gainesville for junior day with his parents and had one thing on his mind, getting the offer from the national champs.

"It feels very good to get the offer and I am proud that a school of that caliber is interested in me," he said. "Now I feel I have to step up and play even better to compete at the next level. My parents were very proud about the Florida offer and they also think it's the perfect place for me to get an education and play sports. My parents and football coach will be the people that I seek advice from as we go through the recruiting process."

Dowling is coming off a fantastic junior season with 14 interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, 58 tackles, three blocked punts and eight pass deflections.
