Bubble Watch - 2/28

Florida has one more day to wait before they can begin having impact on their own chances for making the NCAA tournament. If they win against Tennessee Sunday, none of the other stuff will matter as much. A loss and things become really dicey. Here are five games to keep an eye on during today's action with a chance to improve the Gators status.

NOTRE DAME AT UCONN (2 PM) - Notre Dame is on the outside looking in right now at 16-11, but a road win over an elite team like UConn would help them resuscitate their tournament hopes. ND has won their last two, although one was an unremarkable victory against Rutgers. Their last two regular season games are at home, so a win here would give them a chance at a strong finish. The Huskies won the first meeting between the two in South Bend, and are aiming for a number one seed. That should help them avoid a possible upset bid.

ARIZONA AT WASHINGTON (3 PM) - This is the dream situation for Florida. Washington is their most valuable non-conference win, and they have a chance to continue bolstering their stock while also deflating the chances of a team on the edge of the NCAA field. The Wildcats have lost two straight and are 2-8 on the road this year. A loss here would drop them to .500 in Pac-10 play and 18-11 on the year. Florida fans should be huge Husky supporters the rest of the way, and this one in particular can really help them.

DUKE AT VIRGINIA TECH (3:30 PM) - The Hokies got a boost from their midweek road win against Clemson. They still have a difficult closing stretch that sees the Blue Devils followed by UNC in Blacksburg. Duke is comfortably in but is playing for their seeding. They thumped Virginia Tech by 25 in Durham earlier this season, but have gone 3-3 in their past half dozen ACC games. The Hokies still need a big win to get themselves on the right side of the NCAA line, and UF would prefer they not get it.

INDIANA AT PENN STATE (6 PM) - Indiana is hard up enough for players that they suited up a manager for their most recent game, so they aren't likely to win this one. The Hoosiers have only six wins all season and just one in conference. With Penn State right on the edge of the tournament field, a home loss to the Hoosiers would be disastrous. This is still a Nittany Lions squad which scored 38 in a game recently, so you never know what could happen. The odds aren't good, but the Gators would love to see it.

TEXAS AT OKLAHOMA STATE (6 PM) - The Cowboys have been hot, with four straight Big 12 wins, but haven't beaten any of the conference's top teams in doing so. They've made progress toward an NCAA bid, would fall to .500 in conference play with a loss to Texas. The Longhorns put a 25 point pasting on Oklahoma State last time they met, and still have the chance to upgrade their seeding status for the tournament. Florida could benefit from the Cowboys picking up a loss.
