West Coast DE Drawing East Coast Attention

The Gators are in a perfect position to land a monster class for the class of 2010. With prospects seemingly popping up from all across the land recruiting is moving at a very high pace. One player to keep an eye on is Moreno Valley (CA) Rancho Verde defensive end Ronald Powell.

Ronald Powell is 6-4 and 245-pounds and is being recruited at the defensive end position but has enough athletic ability that he lines up at wide receiver and running back often.

"Recruiting is going pretty well right now," Powell said. "I have offers from Georgia, Auburn, Florida, California, Tennessee, Colorado, USC, Washington State, UCLA, Washington, LSU, Arizona and Arizona State."

Powell has drawn attention from the BCS Champs, the Florida Gators.

"They play great defense and play in a great conference," he said. "The SEC is no joke and I have wanted to play in the SEC since I was a little kid. I have a lot of family in Atlanta and Birmingham so I am familiar with the area. I don't know a lot about Florida other than they get after it on every single play and they go hard. They play for conference and national titles. It's everyone's dream just like mine to play for the championship."

Anytime a potential recruit has contact with the head Gator Urban Meyer he is someone you want to keep an eye on and Powell is no different.

"I speak to Urban a lot about the team and we have very cool conversations with each other," he said. "We talk about life after football, opportunity with academics is a big deal for me. Players, comfort level and coaching staff is the key. I want guys that will push me and a team that rides for championships."
