"I have offers from LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Florida State, Southern Miss and Florida," Solomon Patton said.
"Florida has been in contact with me the most to tell you the truth," he said. "I talk to Coach Heater all the time and I call Coach Meyer each week to check in with him and see what's going on. He is real excited about me coming down to Florida shortly. I have a 7-on-7 passing tournament this weekend in South Florida and my parents and I are going to stop in to check out Gainesville. I hope we can make that happen over the weekend."
"When I first got the offer from Florida I went crazy," Patton said. "I mean I was ready to commit to them right then and there but I think I might wait until the end of the summer. I can't wait to get to Florida and meet with Coach Meyer face to face. I talk to him all the time on the phone and just about every time that I do I tell him I can't believe I am on the phone with him. I just want to get there and meet with him face to face. He talks to me about playing as a freshman at slot receiver with them losing some guys after this year and getting a shot at punt and kick return. I love everything about Florida and when I get down there I hope I fall even in more love with it and I hope my parents fall in love with it as well."
The thought of an offer from a team that has won two of the past three BCS Titles is still a bit overwhelming for Patton.
"I am just surprised," he said. "When they first called, I told all of them I was shocked that I was talking on the phone with them. They don't offer just anyone. You got to be able to play to get offered by them."
Patton has been on visits to Alabama, Auburn, Southern Miss and Florida State.
"Both my parents went with me to Alabama and Southern Miss and only my dad made the trip this past weekend to Florida State," he said. "He is a big Florida State fan but he is like me just going through the process to see what's out there and what might be best for me."
On Alabama, Patton had this to say.
"The system that Alabama runs I am not so sure about. Coach Saban told me that they don't have explosive wide receivers like me and that I can come in and play the slot right away next to Julio. But at the same time I feel like I need to be in the spread offense when it comes down to it so I can take advantage of what I do best. For me the spread is the key and the Florida offer was huge."
Patton ha more than 830 yards receiving on 43 catches scoring 12 touchdowns. He rushed for more than 200 yards and totaled more than 300 yards on special teams as a junior. In 2007 had 66 receptions for 950 yards and nine touchdowns. Patton was all-state 6A first team last season.
