Nelson Eyeing a Pair of SEC Schools

At 6-2 and 220-pounds, Gainesville's (FL) Kevin Nelson has been gaining lots of attention. Kevin Nelson has two current offers from Arkansas and UCF and has talked with Razorbacks head coach Bobby Petrino.

"I talked to Coach Petrino a week ago and he was telling me about the team and my time table on going public and my workout program that I have been on," Kevin Nelson said. "I told him I wanted to try and make a decision in June or August but it depends on how my offers play out. I know a lot about Arkansas because I grew up watching SEC football but I used to play running back so I fell in love with Darren McFadden. I started watching them all the time and they're cool. I like them a lot."

Another Southeastern Conference team has shown Nelson interest and he had a chance to visit them recently.

"I went to Florida last weekend and met up with a few different players," Nelson said. "I was sitting by Coach Strong, my position coach, and that was amazing just sitting next to him and we talked a lot and it was cool. He told me about my chances as a true freshman at UF and the position that I would play. Coach Strong likes me at the weakside linebacker spot, so I could stay at weakside but could move around the field a bit with my speed."

"I grew up watching UF play a lot plus two of my cousins graduated from UF and my aunt is a big fan," he said. "I love the way that they are a family and the academics are great and the 100 percent graduation rate among UF football players. That is something that I want to be a part of one day."

New tight end coach, Bryan White, has made an early impact after the Gators landed Michael McFarland and is also recruiting Nelson.

"It's going great with him," Nelson said. "We are getting real close and we talk about every other day so we are getting a great relationship going and that's important to me."

While Nelson isn't exactly sure of when he will make his decision, he does know some factors that he will use to help in the process.

"Playing time and what feels right to me and my family and I want to go somewhere that I can make an early impact," he said. "I want to show all the coaches that I can come in and help the team win. Like I said earlier, academics are real important to me as well."

Last year he had 125 tackles, 10 for a loss, two pass breakups, three sacks and one blocked punt.

Nelson talked about some teams that he would like to hear more from moving forward.

"I would like to hear from LSU and my coach is working on that because I want to check LSU out," he said. "I think I will be going to check out Miami pretty soon as well. I have the camp that I want to go to soon and then Friday Night Lights in July. Basically anyone that offers me I will go try and check out before I pull the trigger."
