Gators Offer South Florida RB

The Florida Gators extended an offer to running back Giovanni Bernard earlier today. The 5-8 1/2, 201-pound back from Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas was a little surprised to say the least.

"Coach Smith called me out of class today and told me to call this number because someone wanted to talk to me," Gio Bernard said. "When I called it was coach Billy Gonzales on the other line. oach said that they watched my film and that I had all the things in a running back that they look for and he told me that they were officially offering me. They are one of the best teams in America and they want me to come up in a couple of weeks during my spring break. It is an honor to be offered by Florida."

Bernard has offers from some of the top programs across the land with the likes of Florida, Miami, Florida State, FIU, Auburn, UConn, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, Arkansas, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Purdue and Boston College to name a few. Alabama could be the next powerhouse to offer as they have shown a lot of interest as of late.

"Over the summer, I am going with my older brother to check out Oregon State and Alabama," he said. "I want to take my five official visits as of right now. The key for me will be to build a bond with the coaching staff moving forward."

Last season, he finished with more than 1,600 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns and added one touchdown reception and one kick return for another score.
