Benedict Took Another Look at the Gators

At 6-5, 285-pounds Jacksonville (FL) The Bolles School offensive tackle Brent Benedict is one of the hottest prospects in the Southeast. A four-star linemen checking in at No. 27 on the Southeast Top 150, Benedict took another trip to the University of Florida.

"I had a track meet at Florida that was over around noon so my dad and I went over to check out practice and watch them work," Brent Benedict said. "I am excited about what they are telling me right now and also feel very fortunate to be in this position."

Rightfully so, Benedict has over 40 offers at this time from the biggest names in all of college football. Florida, Georgia, LSU, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Clemson, USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Alabama to name a few have extended offers at this time. With many more on the way it will be a difficult process to narrow down for the Benedict family.

"Getting out on all these visits has shown me just how hard a decision this will be coming up. Over the last week or so we visited with Florida, Georgia, VT, UNC, WF, Duke and Clemson. I don't have a top five or even a top 10 at this point but do think that I know a little more about what I am looking for in a school. Academically, athletically and socially I am trying to see what each school has to offer."

Where the Gators rank on that list he isn't sure at this time but one thing that is clear is his admiration for head coach, Urban Meyer.

"Coach Meyer will go down in history as one of the all-time greats," he said. "To win two BCS Titles in three years and have a shot at a third this year is crazy. To one day be able to tell people that I not only met him but had dinner with him and maybe one day play for him is a pretty cool thing."

Benedict spent time with not only Meyer, but new offensive coordinator Steve Addazio and quarterbacks coach Scott Loeffler.

"I had a chance to sit down and eat with Coach Meyer, Addazio and Loeffler before we left tonight and they were all telling me how they are thin at my position after this season with graduation, NFL Draft and some players that are medical casualties."

Benedict also had a chance to spend time with quarterback Trey Burton.

"I spent a good deal of time talking with Trey and he is a real down to earth guy," Benedict said. "He was telling me about all the reasons that I should go to Florida with him and how they are going to have one of the best classes in the nation when it's all said and done."

One of the newest teams to offer, Southern Cal yesterday has caught the attention of Benedict who would like to pay the favor with a visit over the summer.

"I do want to take a trip out West over the summer. Southern Cal offered me yesterday and UCLA before that so I will go out that way to see both of those schools. I also want to check out Texas and Alabama."
